The veteran actor opens up about working with Sudhir Pandey Akshay Kumarrevealed that the superstar sometimes relied on a teleprompter while filming long scenes in ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’. Having shared screen space with Akshay in films like ‘Pandav’, ‘Tis Maar Khan’, ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Padman’, Pandey also praised the actor’s growth, saying his acting has improved significantly over the years.

During a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Sudheer was asked about the longstanding industry buzz surrounding Akshay’s use of cue cards and teleprompters on the sets. Reflecting on their initial collaboration in ‘Pandav’, the veteran actor said that Akshay initially tried to memorize his dialogues, even if some help was available.Talking about the actor’s current working style, Sudheer said, “Tis maar khan me to utna na ki kiya tha. Par ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ me usne help lia tha long sequence me. Ab ho sakta hai use ek savani milti hai, to oh usei kar na bhai tu ekak. Get used to something (he used it more in the ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ long sequence.” Did. He probably started abusing the system. It’s not easy to adapt to something new once you get used to it.”When asked if the large cue cards placed in front of Akshay during a scene were confusing for the other actors, Sudhir dismissed the concerns.“No, eye contact to hota rehta hai. While discussing Akshay’s work ethic, Sudhir emphasized that the actor has evolved immensely over the years.“Akshay was quite raw. Now if we compare him, there has been a leap in his performance. He used to take a lot of retakes. But with every retake he improved his performance. Taking retakes is not a bad thing. Times have changed now. Now, you can take as many retakes as you like. But back in the day, there was stock and producers were wary of taking retakes.”According to Sudhir, Akshay consistently improved with each take, eventually becoming a much stronger performer.

Sudhir Pandey is not the first industry insider to talk about Akshay’s reliance on dialogue prompts. Earlier filmmaker Sunil Darshan also confirmed that the actor sometimes uses placards during shooting.Speaking to Vicky Lalwani, Darshan said, “It’s great if an actor can memorize his lines, but it was always difficult for him to remember entire pages of dialogue. It was manageable in the beginning because he worked less, but in the later years we worked together, he had a problem. We used to put up placards for him that he couldn’t read it from the beginning.”Akshay Kumar was last seen in ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, which received moderate response at the box office.
