Pentatonix singer Scott Hoying, along with his longtime partner and husband Mark Hoying, have announced that the couple have welcomed their baby girl. The duo revealed the news online through a social media post, sharing the announcement as well as revealing her name in an adorable and whimsical video.

The happy couple took to their Instagram account to share with the world that they welcomed their first child, their baby girl, into the family. With the caption, “She’s here! We’re dads! 🥹 Our baby’s name is…”, the family announced the arrival of their first child, Birdie James.In the video, the couple goes about their day, while singing their own version of Kelly Clarkson’s ‘My Favorite Things’, listing things about their baby and wondering what his name should be. In the video, they name-dropped many celebrities, including Zendaya, Ariana Grande, Queen Latifah, as well as all the members of Blackpink. In the end, they announced that they were now fathers and that their daughter was named Birdie James.

During a conversation with People, the couple opened up about how it felt to welcome their baby girl into the world. The pair revealed it was all thanks to Scott’s sister Lauren, who volunteered to be an egg donor.Further, Scott added “It was really beautiful. There were these overwhelming flashbacks of all these memories growing up, ‘Am I going to find love? Is gay marriage going to be legal? Am I going to be able to have a baby?'” He also shared that the couple has been trying for the past 4 to 5 years, and “it’s been a long time coming.”When he first laid eyes on her, the 34-year-old singer admitted that “I started crying because it’s such a beautiful thing that I feel really, really lucky.”

Both explained in interviews that there was a special reason behind the meaning of their daughter’s name, Birdie James. Scott shared, “The first song I learned to sing when I was a little kid was ‘Put on a Happy Face’ by Bye Bye Birdie. We wanted something that was musical, but not on the nose. And we also liked that it felt… like it could work at any age.” His name, James, comes from Mark’s middle name.Concluding his speech, Scott also talked about how he’s hoping their daughter grows up to be a singer like him, though he added that she’ll have the freedom to do and be whatever she wants to be when she grows up.
