Based on the 2007 film Adrienne ShelleyThe musical first premiered in 2016 with lyrics written by Grammy Award winners Sara Bareilles And gained international fame through multiple tours. However, according to the Sydney Morning Herald, producer John Frost cited economic pressures—specifically rising interest rates impacting the cost of living—as the reason they tied the knot.“Sadly, the Sydney season of Waitress will not go ahead,” the statement read, before adding, “Ticketmaster is actively engaging with ticket holders with further information regarding refunds. We understand this is disappointing news, and we sincerely thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.”The production opened in Brisbane earlier this year before moving to Melbourne. Directed by Diane Paulus, the ‘Waitress’ musical features Gabrielle Thomas, Natalie Bassingthwaite, Rob Mills and Mackenzie Dunn. Although no official announcement has been made yet, the Sydney show dates have been removed from their official website.
