But Fazal Mirzapur: The Movie is gearing up for release, one of the most anticipated projects for fans of the hit crime drama franchise. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about the decision to bring Mirzapur to the big screen, revealing that the idea initially came as a surprise even to the actors.

‘We never thought there would be a movie’

Talking about the transition from a successful web series to a feature film, Ali admitted that the team did not expect such a move.“It was quite surprising because we never thought about it. Nothing like this has happened in India before. This is an experiment that we are doing, and hopefully we will be able to bring everyone with us,” he told Pinkvilla. The actor added that the film will revisit the familiar world that audiences have loved since the show’s debut.

The original cast must return

Without revealing too many details, Ali hinted that fans can expect to see quite a few familiar faces in the film.“It’s an entry back into the world where we started. The whole original cast from season 1 is back. Everything has logic, but I won’t say more than that,” he shared. But it also made it clear that the movie is connected to the events of the series and is not a random spin-off. “Everything is relative. It has to be,” he said.

Mirzapur has become a cult phenomenon

Reflecting on the massive success of the franchise, Ali said he never imagined that Mirzapur would become such a big cultural event.“Even season 1 was a test for me because I had never played a character like Guddu Bhaiya before. No one had seen me in that avatar. It changed everything radically,” he said.According to the actor, the show’s popularity has gone beyond expectations. “It starts behaving like a movie. It has become too much of a religion.”

How Guddu Bhaiya changed the perception of the audience

Ali revealed that audiences now strongly associate him with the rugged and muscular image of Guddu Bhaiya.“When I go to small towns, people get upset if I don’t look like Guddu. They say, ‘You’re so skinny. What’s wrong?’ They always expect me to look like that character,” he said. The actor believes that this reaction is linked to conventional notions of masculinity. “People still have this image that a man should look physically imposing, be it Sunny Deol or now Guddu Bhaiya.”

The challenge of body transformation

But she also talked about the physical demands of switching between different roles and body types.“The body changes every year. It depends on your diet, and the transition period is very frustrating. Right now, I’m in that transition phase. We recently finished Mirzapur, and it takes a toll. Sometimes it takes six months or more for your body to adapt,” she explains.Mirzapur: The Movie is all set to release on September 4 and marks the first time the hugely successful streaming franchise will enter the big screen.
