When you have school protesters, who express valid and legitimate concerns for those responsible, violence is absolutely unacceptable.”
Condemned by Imran Khan police action against the students
A day before joining the Mumbai protests, Imran shared a strongly-worded post on Instagram reacting to reports of police action against protesting students at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. In one post, he wrote, “Something broke in me today. Seeing student protesters being beaten and assaulted by the police… How do I understand this? These students who worked hard, were just failed by the system. These people who wanted to be heard, were only met with silence. These citizens who stood up to show what’s important to them… have been beaten down and denied by the establishment.”He further questioned the behavior of the protesters, writing, “Are they not the children of Mother India? If not, for whom do we build, and whose future do we claim to protect? Those who demand ‘organization’ from students protesting education reforms, but do not enforce such high standards of accountability to established authorities; bootlickers, one and all.”
Aamir Khan denies knowing Sonam
Aamir Khan was recently in the news after his appearance at the British Film Institute in London. During a Q&A with the audience, the actor was asked about the lingering belief that his iconic ‘3 Idiots’ character, Phunsukh Wangdu, is based on the Ladakh-based inventor Wangchuk.In the viral clip, Aamir said, “No! Actually it’s not true. It’s a misconception.” He went on to explain, “I didn’t know about Mr Sonam when we were filming ‘Three Idiots’. I know I saw a video of Clever, just now, he said ‘no, he’s wrong’. Maybe that’s what Chatur was thinking, but let me tell you that neither the director Rajkumar Hirani, nor the writer Abhijat Joshi, nor me…we knew about Mr. Sonam.““However, what Mr. Sonam is doing is good anyway. We don’t have to be based on the character in ‘Three Idiots’ to respect him.”The actor was also asked about Wangchuk’s hunger strike, which has now entered its 19th day.
