The CBFC has finally cleared ‘John Noigan’ with an ‘A’ certificate, ending months of uncertainty over the film’s censor process. In an earlier interview with Cinema Vikatan, director A. Venkatesh confirmed that Baghavathi had indeed got an ‘A’ certificate. He said, “They gave the film an ‘A’ certificate. Even I was surprised. The censor board was very strict at that time. Compared to those days, I think the censors are more lenient now.” Explaining the reason, he further said, ‘If a hero punches someone and blood comes out, they won’t let it happen. Most of my films had action and a bit of glamour, so it was common for my films to get an ‘A’ certificate.” Jana Noigan’s comment was revived after it received censor clearance.

With the latest certification, ‘John Naigaan’ joins ‘Baagawati’ as one of only two Vijay films to receive an ‘A’ rating from CBFC. D H.
