‘Ramayan’: Ranbir Kapoor starrer 34-minute footage gets ‘M’ rating in Australia; Film ‘not recommended for children under 15’

‘M’ classification and its meaning

According to Australian guidelines, an ‘M’ (mature) classification is an advisory rating. Films and computer games classified as ‘M’ are ‘not recommended for children under 15’. They may contain content such as ‘violence and themes that require mature viewing’. Children under the age of 15 may legally access this content

A brief synopsis of the film was also shared on the site which reads, “An ancient epic follows a prince and princess whose marriage and subsequent exile sets off a legendary journey. Their story of love, duty and destiny sets the stage for greater challenges ahead.”

‘Ramayana’ trailer is ready for launch

The latest certification comes just days before the makers are expected to unveil the film’s theatrical trailer. D Central Board of Film Certification In India (CBFC) has given ‘U’ (Universal) certificate to the trailer. As per the update, the film will have two trailers, one around 4 minutes long and the other with a runtime of 4 minutes 15 seconds.While trailers are expected to roll out next week, the 34-minute clip sent to Australian certification on July 24 is understood to be for a separate presentation of the film, not a theatrical trailer. While it’s still unclear what the content of this clip is, online chatter suggests it could be the same footage shown at CinemaCon earlier this year.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana.Produced by Namit Malhotra, the two-part epic features AR Rahman and music Hans Zimmer. The film will be released in a two-part epic, with the first part releasing in Diwali 2026 and the second installment arriving in Diwali 2027.
