Chadwick Boseman’s family sues widow Taylor Simone Ledward for the late actor’s million dollar estate; Allegedly, he has not yet distributed the assets

Nearly six years after the death of ‘Black Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman, his family has now filed a lawsuit to remove his widow Taylor Simone Ledward as executor of his estate.According to court documents received e! News, Boseman’s brothers, Kevin Boseman and Derrick Boseman, filed the lawsuit on July 17 on behalf of their parents, Leroy Boseman and Carolyn Boseman, alleging that Ledward failed to distribute his assets as ordered by the court.

The family complained that the assets were not distributed

In the filing, Boseman’s family claimed that the actor’s widow did not properly distribute the actor’s estate in accordance with a 2022 court order, directing that 25% of the estate be allocated to each of his parents.The lawsuit alleges, “After nearly four years, [Taylor] property has not yet been distributed, [Taylor] continued unilateral control over the decedent’s estate, denying the decedent’s family long-term closure or participation in decision-making affecting Leroy and Carolyn’s interests in the decedent’s estate.”

According to court documents, Ledward previously listed Boseman’s estate as consisting of an estimated USD 151,000 in cash, USD 241,000 in an IRA account and USD 3.3 million in stock. Claims of undisclosed assets

However, Boseman’s brothers now argue that the inventory was incomplete. The lawsuit alleges that Ledward failed to fully account for several additional assets, including royalties and residual payments, image and intellectual property rights, real estate, a previously undisclosed bank account and other personal assets.The filing also claims that Ledward did not account for multiple SAG-AFTRA residual payments received through 2020, which, according to the family, should have been distributed under a previous court ruling.

Controversy over image rights

Another key issue highlighted in the case is Boseman’s image and intellectual property rights. In their lawsuit, the family alleges, “These rights rightfully belong to the decedent’s heirs, but are apparently administered by Chadwick Boseman, Inc., a corporate entity wholly controlled by [Taylor] and by which he continues to profit from the reputation of the decedent.”The family also alleges that Ledward prevented them from pursuing business opportunities involving Boseman’s inheritance that could have benefited his elderly parents.

The family wants Ledward’s removal

Kevin and Derrick Bosman argue that Ledward’s handling of the estate “creates the appearance that he is concealing assets from the decedent’s family and the court.” The suit asks the court to compel Ledward to distribute the estate in accordance with the 2022 order and to remove him as administrator.Chadwick Boseman died in August 2020 at the age of 43 after a four-year personal battle with colon cancer. The actor, best known for playing King T’Challa in Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Panther,’ died without a will, prompting ongoing probate proceedings over his estate.
