The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards will be announced today at 5:30 pm, with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting set to release the results at the National Media Center in New Delhi. The announcement will also be telecast live on PIB India’s YouTube channel.The prestigious awards are considered India’s highest official recognition for film excellence. Each year, they honor outstanding achievements across feature films, non-feature films and writing on cinema. Awards are also given in categories including acting, directing, screenplay, music, cinematography, editing and several technical disciplines.

A jury led by Jayaraj completed the evaluation

The selection process was conducted by an 11-member jury headed by acclaimed filmmaker Jayaraj. The panel examines the entries submitted from different regions of the country before preparing its final recommendations.After extensive deliberation and evaluation, the jury submitted their recommendations to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which will officially announce the winners today.The National Film Awards recognize artistic merit, storytelling and technical excellence across India’s diverse film industries. The awards celebrate achievements regardless of language or commercial performance, giving equal weight to creative and technical contributions.

Several critically acclaimed films in controversy

The 2024 qualifying period has showcased a wide range of successful films across Indian cinema. Commercial blockbusters like Stree 2, ‘Pushp 2: The Rule’, ‘Manjummel Boys’, ‘Premalu’, ‘Hanu Man’ enjoyed impressive theatrical runs and became the biggest hits of the year.On the other hand, internationally recognized films including ‘All We Imagine As Light’ and ‘Lapata Ladies’ have received widespread acclaim and global recognition for their storytelling.The final list of winners will reveal which films and filmmakers have impressed the jury across numerous award categories.

Performance can attract attention

Several performances from the qualifying period have generated rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Mammootty won acclaim for his performance in ‘Brahmyugam’, while Prithviraj Sukumaran won acclaim for the survival drama ‘Adujeevitham: The Goat Life’. Karthik Aryan He was also widely appreciated for his lead role in ‘Chandu Champion’.Among the actresses, Sai Pallavi enthralled the audience with Amaran, while Alia Bhatt drew praise for Jigra. With the discussion over, the ministry is all set to officially announce the winners in the various categories.Only from the film that got the certificate Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024, are eligible for this edition of the National Film Awards.
