Christopher Nolan‘The Odyssey’ continues its undisputed run at the Indian box office. Starring Matt Damon in the lead role, the epic fantasy adventure grew well at the box office on Tuesday, thus seeing a slight increase in collections as it crossed the Rs 90 crore milestone in India.
‘The Odyssey’ Tuesday collection
After a blockbuster opening weekend and an expected dip on Monday, Odyssey bounced back with a modest rise in earnings on Tuesday, indicating healthy weekday momentum.As per early estimates at the box office, ‘The Odyssey’ collected an estimated Rs 8.35 crore on Day 5 across 8,520 shows. As per reports, the film grew by 4.4 percent compared to Monday’s estimated net collection of Rs 8 crore. With this, the film’s total Indian net collection rose to Rs 77.65 crore, while its total India collection stood at Rs 92.63 crore.
‘The Odyssey’ first weekend collection
The film opened with Rs 17.40 crore nett on Friday and rose to Rs 22 crore nett on Saturday and showed a slight decline with a nett collection of 21.90 crore on Sunday. With a total of Rs 61.3 crore, the film delivered one of the strongest opening weekends for a Christopher Nolan film in India.
The English version of ‘The Odyssey’ continues to dominate
Since its release on Friday, the original English-language version has made the biggest contribution to the film’s collection. On Tuesday alone, the English version grossed an estimated Rs 6.50 crore, recording the highest 63 percent occupancy among all language versions. The flm’s English version has grossed an estimated Rs 72.68 crore so far, while the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions continue to contribute steadily to the overall box office.
‘The Odyssey’ has become the highest grossing IMAX film in India
‘The Odyssey’ also rewrote the record books for IMAX screening in India. The movie collected an estimated Rs 15.33 crore from just 34 IMAX screens in its first three days in theatres. According to Sacknilk, about 25 percent of the film’s Rs 61.40 crore opening weekend collection came from those 34 premium-format screens, while the remaining 75 percent came from about 2,700 standard screens nationwide.With this, the film has now beaten the long-held record of Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’, making ‘The Odyssey’ the highest-grossing IMAX opener in Indian box office history.
The eyes of ‘The Odyssey’ are 150 crore rupees
Early trade reports suggest that the film is heading for another strong weekend. Advance bookings for the upcoming Saturday and Sunday with premium-format screenings are said to be filling up fast in several cities. Given its steady box office performance, the film is now on its way to cross the Rs 150 crore mark in India
