Comedian Time Raina is back with the second season of ‘India’s Got Latent’, with the first episode Alia Bhatt and Sharvari as the celebrity guest. While the show’s return has generated excitement, an old clip from one of its 2024 episodes has resurfaced online, sparking fresh criticism. The viral video has once again sparked conversations around misogyny, consent and the kind of humor that has been normalized, especially after the recent Rs 370 biryani controversy that dominated social media earlier this month. In the resurfaced clip, a woman attending the show with her boyfriend suddenly gets up and walks off midway. Curious, Samay asks what happened. The man responded that his father had a small heart attack and had to go home. Surprised by the boyfriend’s calm reaction, Samoy asks why he wasn’t looking into the situation with her. He then joked, “Avi jake rota na jake, bhai kandha dega tabi oh matha degi (go cry for him. Give him your shoulder, and he’ll give you the head),” drawing laughter from the audience. The clip has now gone viral, with several social media users criticizing the comment.A One X user wrote, “Kandha dega tabi to matha degi” – A man in the audience has time for Raina when his girlfriend leaves crying because her father has a heart attack. Nothing better than “370 rupees hai biryani ke liye vasulunga to sahi”, yes comedy is not the biggest problem in our country, but such casual f*c boy, locker room language has become mainstream and contributes to crime and violence against women. Men get away with such language/offense because other men participate and applaud when women are told such things. So don’t @ me with your wisdom.”Another user commented, “Entitlement is not measured by what you give…or what It’s a dinner bill or a shoulder to cry on, no body earns. People these days use comedy as a laundromat for rotten ideas… sigh.”A third wrote, “Time lovers are misogynists, it doesn’t matter if it’s male or female, they’re all misogynists, I hope they make fun of the misogynists, I don’t feel sorry for you.”Another post read, “I feel sorry for defending this guy when the whole drama happened. He doesn’t deserve a platform at all, let alone a platform that requires you to pay to watch this crap. Could easily have talked about his behavior but he turned it into a joke for a few laughs.”For those who don’t know, the ₹370 biryani controversy started after a clip from comedian Praneet More’s show went viral. During the show, 23-year-old Himanshu Jangra claimed that he had spent ₹370 on chicken biryani on a date, so he deserved a “return” on that investment. The comment received massive backlash, following which Himanshu apologized and deactivated his social media accounts.Praneet More also issued a public apology, clarifying that the audience member’s statements did not represent his personal views. “Comments made by audience members do not reflect my views,” he said.
