Diljit Dosanjh‘Satluj’ has been in the news ever since it was pulled from OTT two days after its release. Earlier, CBFC had suggested 127 cuts in the film, so the makers opted for an OTT release. Now, filmmakers Anurag Kashyap Alleged that former CBFC Chairperson Prasoon Joshi had objected to Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Satluj’ without even watching the film. Speaking about the long-running censorship battle over Honey Trehan’s directorial, Kashyap claimed that he was told by the director himself that objections were raised even though Joshi had not seen the film. For those who don’t know, Prasoon Joshi leads the way Central Board of Film Certification Until May 2026, when Shashi Shekhar Vempati took over as Chairperson.Earlier titled ‘Punjab ’95’, ‘Sutlej’ has been stuck in censorship issues for almost three years. The film was pulled from ZEE5 worldwide just days after its release. Kashyap recalls a conversation with Honey Trehan about the certification process. “Honey said Prasoon Joshi had objections to the film. He has not seen the film. I know, in other cases too the chairman does not see the film,” Kashyap said in an interview with Kunal Kamra. The filmmaker also claimed that the CBFC chief does not necessarily watch each film personally and instead relies on reports submitted by screening committee members before taking a decision. “Based on that report, an arbitrary decision can be taken. So, the film has been withdrawn arbitrarily. When I last spoke to Honey, no clear reason was given to her,” he said.Trehan recently told The Indian Express that neither he nor the producers were directly contacted before the film was pulled from the streaming platform. “I didn’t get any call from them. I had nothing to do. Neither my producer nor I got any call. But Zee5 got a letter from the (I&B) ministry to stop the film,” Trehan said.According to reports, when the project was titled ‘Punjab ’95’, Prasoon Joshi suggested 127 cuts, including deleting every reference to Punjab. The makers also alleged that they were pressured to withdraw their case against the CBFC while it was pending in court.Kashyap also criticized Joshi for not publicly addressing the recent controversies surrounding film censorship. “If the face of the body is Prasoon Joshi, he has not made any statement about stopping all films. At the end of the day, by removing the FCAT, it is a Kafka-esque thing,” he said.He added, “A government office is a Kafka-esque face. You cannot blame a single government office because they are following guidelines and procedures,” claiming that guidelines change depending on public sentiment.
