A man who has worked closely with Prince Harry and Prince William for almost a decade has expressed cautious optimism that the estranged brothers may one day be reunited. Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, a 66-year-old former Royal Cavalry and SAS soldier, served as private secretary to both princes for eight years before stepping down from the role in 2013.While promoting her forthcoming novel ‘Beyond the Age of Light’, Lowther-Pinkerton offered a rare inside look at the relationship between King Charles’ two sons, describing both as men of considerable courage and character. Her comments come as Prince Harry prepares for a landmark visit to the UK in July, marking the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham.
Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton has a long history with Prince William and Prince Harry
The Lowther-Pinkerton connection to the royal family spans decades. She served as Ensemble to the Queen Mother from 1984 to 1986, followed by a stint as private secretary to the Prince and their future sister-in-law. Her role placed her in a position to significantly influence the development and direction of both Harry and William’s lives during their formative years. The former military officer is now the godfather of Prince George, second in line to the throne, a responsibility he takes on with considerable devotion. Speaking about her current role, Lowther-Pinkerton admitted that although she may not always be present, she makes the most of opportunities to engage with the young royals. “It sounds horrible, but I’m a good godfather when it comes to having a little fun,” he said while speaking to The Times.
Prince Harry and Prince William’s Distinguished Military Achievements
Both Harry and William earned considerable honors for their military service, with Harry serving on multiple operational deployments to Afghanistan. William, meanwhile, demonstrated exceptional skill and bravery in his role as a helicopter pilot, conducting rescue operations in challenging conditions across British waters and difficult terrain.“Harry went on operations to Afghanistan twice and for William you can look anyone in the eye if you fly a Sea King through a Force 8, Force 9 through a fixed bearing, over the Irish Sea or the North Atlantic to pick up a sick crewman or fly against a cliff,” said Snowdonia and Technical Dangering under Snowdonia. This type of work requires expertise.
Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton is optimistic about Prince Harry and Prince William’s future
Despite widespread reports that the two brothers have not spoken since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022, Lowther-Pinkerton remains optimistic about their future relationship. Asked directly about the apparent rift between them, his response was characteristically measured but optimistic.“I’m a perennial optimist,” she said. “I think I want to move away from the Harry issue. All I will say is that I like him a lot and have.” His careful phrasing suggests that he is sensitive to the issues that may arise between the two brothers, but at the same time, he is hopeful that they will be able to reconcile in the future.

Prince Harry’s upcoming visit to the UK with Meghan Markle and their children
Harry will visit London in July with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, Archie and Lilybet. The tour is mostly about the commemorative activities of the Invictus Games, but there are also some questions about whether there will be any greater interaction between the two estranged brothers. So far, there are no concrete signs that such a meeting will take place, although there have been reports of an agreement between King Charles and Sussex regarding the visit.
