‘Toy Story 5’ Twitter review: Fans praise Jessie as lead but debate whether sequel was necessary

‘Toy Story 5’ sparked a wave of reactions on early Twitter (now X), where viewers Disney And Pixar’s sequel is funnier, more emotional and more focused than ‘Toy Story 4’. The response was not entirely one-sided. Many praised Jesse’s larger role, the return of Woody and Buzz Lightyear, and the film’s story of children and technology. Others said the sequel repeats emotional beats the franchise has already used.

‘Toy Story 5’ X Review: Fans React to Jesse and Tech’s Story

‘Toy Story 5’ comes from Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures. Andrew Stanton directed the film, Kenna Harris co-directed it, and Lindsay Collins produced it. The voice cast includes Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Greta Lee, Conan O’Brien, Tony Hale, Craig Robinson, Annie Potts and Keanu Reeves. The story follows Bonnie’s toys after Woody’s departure in ‘Toy Story 4’. Jesse leads the room, while Buzz supports him. Bonnie becomes attached to a frog-like tablet called the LilyPad, which propels the toys into a story of childhood, screen and game changes. One viewer wrote, “‘Toystory 5’ is definitely better than the fourth because of what worked in this film. But the fifth doesn’t come close to the first three because this film didn’t work.”Another response read, “When you go to see a Toy Story movie you know it won’t disappoint and ‘Toy Story 5’ is no different. The writing is always relevant, Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack all give great performances and it’s funny and emotional. First 3, greatest trilogy maybe ever, but I’ll make 10.”

‘Toy Story 5’ Reaction: Viewers call the sequel funny and emotional

One viewer said, “For anyone who thought Toy Story 3 was the perfect ending for this franchise, I have to say I respect that it still resonates and has something to say. Toy Story 5 hits all the right notes with humor and heart, as well as what kids really need to connect with other kids.”Another called the film “a step up from its predecessor” and added, “This is definitely a Jesse focused film, and he carries it off well. Jesse and buzz shippers will be happy.”One post said, “‘ToyStory5’ was fun. Necessary? No. But it was great to see the gang. Realized I dug Jesse’s character over Woody.” The movie may be more appreciated by younger audiences. As long as they keep up the quality I will watch these. Not my favorite but still worth watching.”Another viewer wrote, “Toy Story 5 had no business making me so emotional. My inner child is not okay.” The same reaction added, “Shaishbaye is a hit. It balances nostalgia with a realistic story and delivers some truly emotional moments.”A post called the film “another slam dunk for the franchise” and praised the “new and old characters and how it weaves together the story”.Another response read, “Thoroughly enjoyed ‘ToyStory5’, got a lot of laughs from me, even a few tears. Love hearing these motifs on the soundtrack, Randy Newman is a really great guy. Glad to see Jesse taking the wheel and being the main character this time around.”A more mixed response said, “I thought ‘ToyStory 5’ was okay. The story of toys vs. technology was a great, solid idea for a movie, but it wrapped up in a bunch of set pieces and sentimental bits that we’ve seen before in the series. I think this franchise should have ended at 3.”
