Ahmed Khan with the story of ‘Sabar’
In an interview with News18, he said, “At that time, before Laker, I wrote a film called Sabar. He was supposed to play a double role in the film. AR Rahman also agreed to compose the music. It was a grandfather and grandson story – when he was born, his grandfather was no more but he knew everything about him when he heard his mother’s story. Emotional story”.
Ahmed Khan recalled when Shah Rukh was about to launch two directors
Shahrukh was supposed to play a double role in the film. That year, Superstar planned to launch two choreographers as directors, Farah Khan And Ahmed himself. “When I told Shah Rukh about this, he said he wanted to do the film. I was in a hurry to do it. Shah Rukh was launching two choreographers as directors in his production that year – Farah and me. At that time, it was called Dreamz Unlimited,” he recalls.
Why is Ahmed Khan delaying the film?
The story resonated with him immediately. “Shah Rukh heard my script and he liked it. It was a serious film. Rahman started working on his music. It was supposed to star two other heroes,” shared Ahmed. So what happened next? “His commitment was to Farah first. As per my understanding, my film will be after Farah’s. I couldn’t get in the queue. But his film kept going ahead. It was delayed by almost two years because Shah Rukh had other commitments to fulfill, and it takes a long time to make a film. I was getting restless. I was ready to start my film. And then, finally, May Hoon Na went to the floor. It would have taken them a year or a year and a half to finish it. I couldn’t wait that long,” Ahmed said.
Shahrukh’s words touched Ahmed Khan’s heart
Although Shah Rukh asked Ahmed to hold on a little longer, he couldn’t, and he left to start working on Lekir. “I remember talking to Shah Rukh and he told me, ‘Don’t go anywhere. Your first film has to be with me.’ He spoke to me like an elder brother and his words touched my heart,” said the Baaghi 2 and Welcome to the Jungle director. This situation, however, did not affect their bond, but Ahmed chose not to return to that story. “I asked him if it was okay if I did my second film with him and he told me, ‘Tu hi ja raha hai.’ That’s when I drifted off and made the laker. But it never affected our equation. That film was never made. It was only for Shahrukh. But I know it’s never too late,” he comments.
