The last week of July brings an interesting lineup of South Indian films on the streaming platform. Recent releases include action dramas, crime thrillers, horror mysteries, emotional dramas and dark comedies. Here’s a look at the top South Indian films making their digital debut this week.
‘Pallichattambi ‘,’Ahankar Raman ‘ and more
Among the biggest releases is Tovino Thomas-starrer ‘Pallichatambi’, which will start streaming on SonyLIV from July 24.Set in Kerala in the late 1950s, the period action drama follows Krishna Pillai, a man raised in both Hindu and Christian families, whose life changes when he becomes the dreaded Pallichattambi.The film also stars Kaidu Lohar, Siddique, Vijayaraghavan, Baburaj and Shatru, with Prithviraj Sukumaran appearing in a special cameo. Confirming the digital premiere, SonyLIV wrote, “Settu settu settu settu settupppu Siyippilpppu #PalliChattambi streaming from 24th July exclusively on SonyLIV.”Also coming on July 24 is ‘Ahang Raman’ on Prime Video. The film follows Areva, a TNPSC aspirant who fulfills her dream of becoming a government officer. The cast includes CB Chandran, Robo Shankar, Cheran Raj and more.
Horror, crime and comedy
Fans of supernatural stories can look forward to ‘Kalinga Mystery’, which premieres on July 24 on Sun NXT. The horror-comedy revolves around a group of college students who unknowingly unleash an ancient supernatural force. Dhyan Srinivasan, Altaf Salim, Riyaz Khan and others acted in the film. The movie received mixed response from the audience upon its theatrical release. The AI scenes in the movie are said to be decent.Netflix will also add ‘Con City’ to its catalog on July 24. The crime comedy follows four con artists posing as an ordinary family while running a hotel in Karnataka. Arjun Das and Anna Ben headline the cast alongside Yogi Babu, Vadivukkarasi and others.On the same day, ‘Triple Decker’ will make its direct OTT debut on Manoramamax. The dark comedy follows a delivery executive whose efforts to help the woman he loves leads him into increasingly chaotic situations. The film stars Akhil Sreekumaran, Vaishnavi and Gauri Kutty.
‘chinna chinna come ‘ OTT gets the release date
Directed by Varsha Vasudev, ‘Chinna Chinna Asai’ is set to stream on JioHotstar from July 28. Set in Varanasi, the film follows two strangers whose lives become connected through an unexpected turn of events.Announcing the release, the streaming platform wrote, “Every little wish has a story to tell. Chinna Chinna Asai is streaming exclusively on JioHotstar from July 28 in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.”
‘Say: Son To close the month
Rounding out the month’s OTT releases is ‘Baalan: The Boy’, which will begin streaming on ZEE5 from July 31. Directed by Chidambaram, the Malayalam-Telugu film tells the story of a young boy raised by his mother in a women’s correctional facility. After leaving the institution, the two continue to change their identities to escape their past. The climax, performances, technical aspects and music received appreciation from the audience.
