veteran actor Javed Jaffery Believes that a lot of stardom can sometimes become a limitation rather than an advantage for actors. Referring to Dr Amitabh BachchanCiting his career as an example, Javed says commercial pressure often prevents even big stars from exploring unconventional roles. He also reflects on the younger generation of actors, the issue of typecasting and why he still feels he has more to offer as a performer after more than four decades in the industry.The 63-year-old looks back on his long journey in films and discusses how both Bollywood and its audience have changed over the years.Sharing his thoughts on the current crop of actors, Javed said, each generation brings its own positives and negatives. Although he admired the young performers for their professionalism and determination, he felt they often lacked patience. “I think, young people, they’re in too much of a hurry and they don’t fit in too much and everything. The good side is that they’re professional, they’re very serious, they’re very focused on what they want. So yes, there are minuses and pluses,” he said in an interview with HT City. According to him, such differences are normal because each generation’s method works differently.Javed also opened up about the film industry’s trend of recasting actors in roles that have already proved successful. While he says he’s been fortunate enough to avoid being boxed into a single image, he admits that commercial success often dictates future casting choices.“I can’t say I’ve been stereotyped. I’ve done everything. I’ve played a villain, I’ve played crazy guys, serious films, this, that and others. i did everything What tends to happen is that what works well in business, people start contacting you remembering that it works for them. This applies even to the biggest stars because the moment you become a commodity, they don’t let you. It is a sad place.“To illustrate his point, Javed quoted Amitabh Bachchan as saying that even the legendary actor experienced a time when commercial considerations limited his creative choices.“There was a phase when nobody was bigger than Mr. Bachchan. There was a phase when (veteran actor) Mr. (Amitabh) Bachchan couldn’t do anything different because it didn’t work. Again, he was limited because the commercial aspects wouldn’t let him. Now he’s doing the variations that he, as an actor, obviously wanted to allow him to move commercially.”Reflecting on his own career, Javed said that he deliberately avoided appearing on screen too often, believing that maintaining variety and gaps between projects helped him maintain his longevity.“As an actor, though, I’ve done a lot. But you have to separate yourself. The moment you saturate yourself, it becomes a problem because if you’ve done everything. But by God’s grace, I’ve managed it well. I’ve played a villain, I’ve played madmen, as well as serious films. Still, I think I have a lot more to explore.”
