Christopher Nolan has built his entire career on the belief that the real world is more cinematic than anything a screen can produce, and ‘The Odyssey’ takes that philosophy further than any film before it. Shooting in six countries without large-format theatrical cameras and green screens, Nolan took Homer’s ancient epic and made its landscapes alive and waiting in the real world. At CinemaCon in April, he described the experience as “an absolute nightmare to film, but in all the right ways”, adding, “We went all over the world to make this film because it’s The Odyssey.
