The date was later pushed back, after which the film was expected to hit theaters in August. However, reports now suggest that CBFC has put the film on hold, making it unlikely that it will meet the August deadline.

According to NDTV news, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has put on hold the clearance of Salman’s ‘Matrubhoomi’, earlier titled ‘Battle of Galwan’, till further orders.
Salman Khan’s ‘Motherland’ has sparked controversy in China
Even before its release, the film created controversy in China. After its teaser surfaced online, several Weibo users accused the movie of presenting a distorted account of the Galwan Valley conflict. The Ministry of External Affairs had addressed the matter in January, saying that film production-related issues in India are dealt with by the “relevant authorities” and that the MEA “plays no role” in such matters.

The makers unveiled the teaser of the film to coincide with Salman Khan’s 60th birthday on December 27, 2025. Salman plays the role of Colonel Santosh Babu in the film, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment, who leads Indian troops during a skirmish while executing a disengagement agreement on the border.
