Released in 2007, ‘Awarapan’ achieved cult status soon after its release and its music played an important role in that appeal. Songs like ‘To Phir Aao’ and ‘Tera Mera Rishta’ became integral to the film’s identity. Now, ‘To Phir Aao’ is all set to make a comeback as the title track of the sequel, ‘Awarapan 2’. Amal Mallick Steps to compose and sing new versions. The move drew a backlash from Pakistani singer Mustafa Zahid, who lent his voice to the original soundtrack.
Amal Mallick called the new track the best of his career
On Tuesday, Amaal took to X (earlier Twitter) to announce that he has composed the title song of ‘Awarapan 2’, describing it as the best of his career. “#SoulOfAwarapan which I always called until #mukeshbhat sir gave it a name…Can’t thank him enough for giving me my first special film, which was my dream since I was 16. Thanks to Mukesh ji and @visheshfilms for living the day of my 20 year old dream. I have composed the best song of my career for this movie —— ‘Title Song’ of #Awarapan2 written by legendary poet #RashmiBirag.“
Amal Mallick credits Mustafa Zahid for the original magic
In a subsequent tweet, the singer-composer also credited Mustafa Zahid, who lent his voice to two songs in the original ‘Awarapan’ – ‘To Phir Aao’ and ‘Tera Mera Rishta’. “Also a big hug to the man we all must never forget, the voice of the original #MustafaZahid and his contribution to the 2007 soundtrack – My homie, my brother from another mother & a risk border @Mustafology. We could never have done it without your magic on the original My Bro.” Thank you for the wonderful tunes, impeccable voice and that emptiness in your performances that still haunts me and heals me,” wrote Aamal.
Mostafa Zahid’s sincere reply
Mustafa responded later that night, retweeting Amal’s tweet with the message, “Lots of love Amal, remember boundaries are dangerous but so is love. Take Awarapan’s legacy to another level, the stage is all yours Mere bro.”
Mustafa Zahid’s original franchise is all set for a sequel
