Dia Mirza faces backlash after 5-year-old boy becomes school delivery boy with plastic bag: 'Entitlement is unrealistic'
Dia Mirza faced backlash after she shared on Soha Ali Khan’s podcast how her 5-year-old son Avian scolded a delivery boy for bringing coconuts in a plastic bag. While Soha praised her conviction, social media users called Dia ‘entitled’ and accused her of ‘favorability’, pointing to her own use of plastic-packaged makeup products.

Dia Mirza Avian Azad Rekhi faced social media backlash after he described how his 5-year-old son had once lectured an adult delivery boy. The conversation touched on Diya’s strong opposition to climate change and the use of plastics. He recounted an incident where his younger son confronted a delivery boy for handing over coconuts in plastic bags with plastic straws.

Dia Mirza’s son lectures the delivery boy about plastic

he Soha Ali KhanOn its podcast, Dia said, “Coconut Wala delivered coconuts and nothing could burn my blood except coconut water that came in a plastic bag with a plastic straw. So this boy, poor man, he didn’t know who he was delivering to. So Avian opened the door and put his hands on his hips and said, ‘Bhai Plastik amare lekar na, aa Plastik hai ami harham na. Plastik se kalo, usko neche kaho or plastic or straw.’ Go to the lake (why got it plastic? No plastic in our house, put it down and remove the plastic).

Soha Ali Khan praised Dia Mirza’s son

Soha praised Aviyan’s conviction, responding, “Imagine a grown man standing up to someone and having that conviction.”

Dia Mirza called ‘entitlement’

While Soha appreciated Aviyan’s behavior, many viewers did not agree with how the child acted or Diya supported him. The podcast clip soon went viral online. Labeling Diya as ‘entitled’, one user commented, “Imagine talking to someone so rude and with such entitlement who is literally providing you a service at 40 degrees Celsius – entitlement is unrealistic – it blinds them from basic respect and decency. If you don’t do plastic, go to Thela and buy it in a paper bag.” And then the same people act all polished and “real” on camera… what a joke.”

Allegation of ‘favorable facilities’ against Dia Mirza

Another viewer pointed out that Dia herself probably uses plastic packaged makeup products, yet doesn’t notice. Calling it ‘insulated privilege’, the user commented, “A child scolds a poor coconut seller, who tries to “take back his plastic” by selling it door-to-door to survive the scorching Indian summer, while adults celebrate it as “growing up”. “Then the baby’s mother appears on camera, fully equipped with 20+ makeup products for that perfect dewy glow… Guess what sells these products? You guessed it — plastic packaging! This is what Insulated Privilege looks like.Another user commented, “Entitled Dia Mirza is talking nonsense and another privileged woman agrees. First teach your child some manners. The nariel must be brought in a bag. If you don’t want a plastic bag, fine. No need to allow your child to scold the delivery person.” Several other comments echoed similar sentiments.

Dia Mirza’s marriage and family life

Dia Mirza tied the knot with businessman Vaibhav Rekhi in 2021 in a private wedding ceremony held at his Bandra home in Mumbai. The couple welcomed their son Aviyan that same year. Earlier she was married to a producer Sahil Sangh.
