Director Craig Gillespie’s superhero film ‘Supergirl’ has taken off with a decent opening at the box office in India. The film, starring Millie Alcock in the lead role, opened to an estimated collection of Rs 1.40 crore on the first day, said a report by Sacknilk.

According to early trade figures, the DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures release played across 2,967 shows, with a total collection of Rs 1.67 crore in India. The film, which released in multiple languages, made the highest collection since the film’s English release. Breaking down language-wise collections, the English version led the film’s performance with Rs 1.05 crore, followed by the Hindi version with Rs 20 lakh. The Tamil version collected Rs 10 lakh, while the Telugu version contributed Rs 5 lakh.
‘Supergirl’ takes on ‘Welcome to the Jungle’
In India, ‘Supergirl’ faced stiff competition from ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, which starred Akshay Kumar in the lead role. The comedy entertainer has already built momentum through paid preview shows, collecting an estimated Rs 3.75 crore (roughly Rs 4.50 crore gross) ahead of its official release. On Day 1, the Hindi comedy collected an estimated 15 crore nett across 10,892 shows, taking its cumulative India nett collection to Rs 18.75 crore and India total to Rs 22.50 crore.Overseas, the film grossed Rs 6.50 crore, taking its worldwide total to Rs 29 crore.

‘Supergirl’ also got off to a promising start in North America, earning an estimated USD 7.8 million from preview screenings at the US box office on Thursday and USD 13 million worldwide on its opening day. According to Deadline, the film is currently looking to collect USD 40 million.

‘Supergirl’ follows Alcock’s character as Kara Jor-El, Superman’s cousin, who made her cameo appearance in ‘Superman’ (2025). Starring Matthias Schweinerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Korenshwaite and Jason Momoa, the film has a second theatrical release in the new DC Universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
