Director Dylann Mayer, in conversation with Entertainment Weekly, opened up about his feature debut and the experience of making it. He said, “Frankie and Molly are co-dependent boneheads who have spent the last 10 years happily smoking weed, co-signing each other’s bad choices and screening out the increasingly insistent calls of adulthood.”‘The Wrong Girls’ has been in the works for a while now, too Stewart Serving as one of the authors. The actress recently made her directorial debut with the film ‘The Chronology of Water’.Talking about how the film came to fruition, Meyer added that “The Wrong Girls was born out of my relationship with my best friend and producing partner, Maggie McLean, without whom I couldn’t have done anything.” She added that “It’s a love letter to troubled women and the necessary platonic partnerships that help them. Speaking to Interview magazine in 2023, the actress first teased the project and said, “Me and Dylan are writing a movie. It’s a stoner girl comedy, and it’s really stupid. Plot of ‘The Wrong Girls’
The plot revolves around two aimless young women who are drug addicts and encounter an experimental drug. After eating it, however, the two of them develop telepathic abilities with each other and their cat. Due to a mistaken identity, these two are thrust into a world of danger as a dangerous rival is also after the same drug they possess.Apart from Stewart and Shaukat, the film also stars names like Seth Rogen, Geena Davis, Lakeith Stanfield, Kumail Nanjiani, Jack Fox and Tony Hale. It is scheduled to release on August 14, 2026.
