Filmmaker SS Rajamouli has shared a major production update about his upcoming film ‘Baranasi’. The director, who is currently shooting for his ambitious Rs 1,400 crore film, took a break from production to attend the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where he shared updates on the schedule and more.
Rajamouli Make sure the ‘Varanasi’ action scenes are complete
Speaking to Variety, Rajamouli confirmed that all the big IMAX action sequences of the movie have now been shot and shared that the film is progressing at a steady pace. Sharing an update on the film, he shared, “What I can say is that we have completed a major part of the shoot, all the important big spectacular action sequences are done. We are (now) going to do small, inter-connecting scenes so hopefully, by September, maybe a little bit by October, we should wrap up the shoot.“

He said, “From the beginning, we knew that the sequences that were envisioned would be justified at best. [the] The IMAX format – we didn’t change anything just for the format.”The director had previously revealed that the epic 20-minute Ramayana demands a larger format to include the massive, vertical aspects of the battle scenes, the actual scale and scope of the sequences and the mythological settings. So, the team decided to go ahead with shooting the film in IMAX.

The upcoming time-travel film is scheduled to release in April 2027 According to reports, the film’s budget crossed Rs 1,000 crore, making it one of the most expensive films ever made in India.Rajamouli’s previous films include RRR and The Bahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion blockbusters, widely credited with pushing the scale and ambition of Indian cinema.
