GEMS Education India announces US$30 million expansion plan to build 30 new schools

Bengaluru: GEMS Education (India), part of Dubai-based Varkey Group, which operates K-12 private school operator GEMS Education, has announced its India expansion strategy with an initial investment of up to $30 million over the next three to five years. The plan includes the development of more than 30 GEMS-operated schools, 1,000 GEMS partner schools, and the establishment of specialized education colleges focusing on teacher training, leadership development and educational research.“As part of its near-term development roadmap, GEMS India has confirmed that there will be 21 GEMS-operated school projects. The first five schools are scheduled to open in Greater Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Rajasthan from the 2026 academic year. There are plans to open 16 more campuses in eight states over the next two years to complement the organization’s existing network of schools in Gurgaon, Kochi and Lucknow NCR. Cities such as Ghaziabad, Pune, Coimbatore and Raipur are already implementing clear plans,” the organization’s press release said. The school will offer CBSE, ICSE, Cambridge and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.It is said that in order to support long-term education infrastructure development, GEMS India is also setting up a dedicated Category II Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) under the provisions of the SEBI (Alternative Investment Funds) Regulations, 2012. The fund will focus on acquiring quality school infrastructure and developing new campuses. Commenting on the news, Sunny Varkey, Founder and Chairman, GEMS Education said, “Quality education remains the most powerful catalyst for social transformation.
